The first New Moon of 2024 at 20° Capricorn (on January 11th) offers us fertile, cold, dark ground to plant our seeds of intention. These seeds are wild, resilient, and determined —seeds of large resonant spells. On this New Moon altar, place soil from your garden, your local park, your favorite Earth place. Tidy up any ashes and feed them to Hecate at the crossroads. Let go of old spells that have gone to seed. Tune into the needs of your precious body at this precarious moment in time. Channel the wisdom of the sea goat, they who chose land over water as their next frontier. What can you do to increase your flexibility during times of transformation? Capricorn encourages our goal-setting ambitions, and we must be careful to do so in ways that are grounded in our truest energetic capacity. Investing in your wellbeing is a spell during times when our attention is being manipulated and our energy being drained by external forces. Dance into grounding, stretch as you meditate with your candle, or sing a spontaneous chant to call forth guiding spirits.

Capricorn is an ally in the practical work of making manifest, which is a boon for all witches who cast elaborate spells but sometimes forget to do their magical homework (guilty!) After setting your Capricorn intentions and casting your New Moon spells, sit down and write a list or an action plan, that might support the energetics of the work you just set forth into the world. Focus on action items that are manageable for you to accomplish. Make it, “eat a healthy breakfast 4 days a week” or “check-in with myself daily by recording a voice memo” or “remember to play!” Spells require tending and energetic commitment. This New Moon is willing to support us as long as we are willing to get a little weird with it.
