The July 5th Cancer New Moon is an important resting point in this zodiac season's narrative arc. Sandwiched between two Capricorn Full Moons, the New Moon offers us space to reroot into our deepest desires for awakening, collective growth, and cultivating systems of care. While Full Moons are best for release and celebration, New Moons are best for digging in, planting seeds, and making commitments. This Cancer season, we have been asked to release, reground, and recommit to the work of making our spells come to fruition.
Cancer is the sign of the nurturer. They teach us how to keep our hearths lit and our homes sanctuaries. They show us how to be attuned to the needs of those around us. Cancer’s magic is mundane; it sweeps the kitchen with laughter, bakes bread for the spirits, knows when to lean in for a hug. Both protector and sensitive soul, Cancer’s energy is fierce and tender.
Something radical is afoot. Collectively we are in the midst of immense breakdown which we can only hope will lead to massive breakthroughs, innovations, and repair. This Cancer New Moon is an opportunity to set intentions that center mutual aid, collective care, and radical justice. The Sun and Moon form a wide conjunction to Venus at 22° of Cancer, invoking the ancient femme archetype of justice into the alchemy of the moment. How can we steer towards an equitable society if we are not tending to our needs in radical and ethical ways? What needs to shift in your own body, home, and relationship to the Moon, for you to feel more authentic and rooted in your value systems? This New Moon is an opportunity to set boundaries that support us in staying true to our core needs, and making sure our needs are not met at the expense of others. The magic may be mundane, but it may have revolutionary ripples if we are radical in our spell casting.
As you plant fresh seeds of intention, survey your energetic landscape. What spells have you planted this year that are coming to fruition? What feels stagnant or blocked? As we traverse the cosmic waves of this lunation cycle, be conscious of what needs to be composted for new growth to take place. Part of radical care is knowing when to let go, to sacrifice, to tend to grief, to prioritize less. May this Cancer New Moon offer us all the grace we need to face what is challenging with both tenderness and resolve to create a better future.
Our world is in a deeply uncertain space, and I’m sure we are all juggling many fears about what the future holds for us. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, jaded, anxious, and bereft. These emotions are important and valid. As I juggle my personal fears about the future, I am also circulating these questions:
What stage of transformation is the collective in, and at what stage of transformation am I?
How can I use my own understanding of my creating-destroying powers to support the collective undoing and repair process?
What can we as spiritual folks do to support collective regeneration?
What is spirituality’s role in the revolution?
How can acts of care fortify my spirit for what is to come, what is happening, and what will be?
Pulling cards for these prompts might reveal some insights for you…
I’m curious - what questions are you circulating at this deeply precious and important moment?
Wishing you all a tender and fertile New Moon ~
