“A Confluence of Witches: Celebrating Our Lunar Roots, Decolonizing the Craft, and Reenchanting Our World” is here! Thank you for welcoming this book into the world alongside all of its incredible contributors. This book is a spell for a more radical, inclusive, and expansive form of witchcraft, and a token of my love and appreciation for the work I have been privileged to participate in with Modern Witches Confluence.
My initial intention was to write about how this anthology came to be, how I stitched together the work of these amazing witches, and how it influenced who I am today, and in the process of reflecting I was overcome by the many paths, and many roots of magic and practice that have led me to this wild and precious moment. (Reminder: you are also living yours too.)
The creative process is a spiral. A labyrinth or sometimes a maze. We are lost, then we find a match to light up the darkness. At one moment we are illuminated by our passions, and then suddenly we are putting passions to bed for a time, walking into yet another unknown territory of being. We find the light when we are ready to be awakened to another cove of ourselves, to discover another spiral to our vast capacity to create and make meaning.
As I find myself walking my own spiral path, I am noticing how the birth of a creative work into the world can also feel like a small death. Last Thursday, on the Taurus Full Moon, I was joined by fellow witches and anthology contributors at the Philosophical Research Society, to talk about “A Confluence of Witches” and the task of practicing modern witchcraft. The evening was ripe with revelations and illuminating conversation about what it means to be a witch, to practice magic, to be alive in the world at this transformative time. And it was a Full Moon. Together we released many spells about sovereignty, power, collective practice, and esoteric knowledge into the world, and I sense those ripples reweaving the ether. When we release something we let it go. Whether we are releasing a spell into the world, or releasing a creative project, once it is out of our hands, it finds a place in the web of interconnection, it animates to its own heartbeat.
Witchcraft is a practice of trust. In trusting what is ready to be released, we are making space in our lives for something else. My task as a mother, an artist, and a witch, is to slow down my own spiral journey – to linger in the death moment, to savor the release. Rather than rushing to fill the space created by the birth of “A Confluence of Witches,” I am choosing to feel into the void, to listen for what wants to take shape next.
Alongside the release of this anthology is my transforming relationship with Modern Witches Confluence. Our Witches Confluence over Samhain weekend was a transformative portal of spiritual activism that I know will continue to reverberate outward. My part in hosting and curating these events feels more uncertain. At this crossroads I am being called to embody other aspects of my calling, towards writing, art-making, collaborating, and counseling. So for now I will be setting the Witches Confluence aside, untangling it from my web of responsibility, and waiting to see what shape it would like to take as we all transform.
Capitalism and white supremacy would like us to have it all figured out. Would like us to perform as though we know what we are doing, that there is a road map, and that progress and expansion are the only successful outcomes. My spiralic creative practice has taught me otherwise, time and time again. Witchcraft also teaches us this — that there is treasure and substance to be gathered from times of contraction, turmoil, and darkness. (And I am not suggesting that it feels good or golden in the process.) So as we wind our way to the Solstice, I am encouraging myself to pause, rather than rushing in to shape the shadows.
I will continue to host the Modern Witches podcast, and I will have much more space for consulting and writing (more to share here!) in the Winter months. I look forward to connecting more with you all throughout the dark season.

I know how it feels to unspool the thread of creativity and figure out what shape it wants to take next. Spirals, indeed. Thank you for sharing — I love how you honor your own evolution and shape shifting 🤍
The word is simple, but reading this I just thought “wow.” Wow, this message is beautiful and authentic. Wow, this experience is real, relatable, inspiring, and aspirational to/for my own journey. Thank you for this expression and all your generously shared creativity, words, teachings, and work❤️✨
